The most Spirit-filled moments of the day are sunrise and sunset.    It is a time when the darkness of night touches the light of day, creating an astonishing occurrence where one can watch the heavens transform the earth.  In those tranquil moments, tongues of fire fracture the horizon with fire in the sky.  It’s impossible to look away from it, not to be mesmerized by its splendor and humbled by its majesty.

As we celebrate the feast of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church, I hope that we are all able to create a small opening in our chaotic and cluttered lives to experience this transformation and be drenched in the fruits of the Holy Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness, gentleness, and self-control..

There is really no need to distinguish a sunrise from a sunset, for one person will experience it as the beginning of day, and somewhere else, another sees it as the beginning of night.  It is simply one continuous, never-ending birth, death, resurrection, and life-giving fruit of the Spirit touching everyone, everything, at every moment of time.  Heaven is transforming earth, creating this fire in the sky.
