Mistaken Identity

If you think a stone an apple,
why the shock when you break a tooth?
Or if you assume the locked door
a curtain of glass beads,
will the bump on your forehead
come as surprise or mystery?
When you pretend to be your false self,
will the deceit leave you embarrassed?
A butterfly cannot be a crow,
a pond has no claim to dry land,
and your soul, uniquely formed,
can only inhabit the history you are
and the body wherein it dwells.
